Why was my gift card trade rejected?

Learn the common reasons a gift card trade may be rejected and what to do next.

A rejected status means your card could not be verified or does not meet our trade requirements. The specific reason is always stated in your rejection notification, review it carefully before resubmitting.

Common reasons for rejection:

  • The gift card code has already been used or has zero balance

  • The card was not properly activated at the point of purchase

  • Wrong category or subcategory selected (incorrect denomination range, country, or orientation)

  • Card image is unclear, cropped, incomplete, or poorly lit

  • The code entered does not match the card submitted

  • No card details or image were included

  • The image uploaded does not match the card type or category selected

  • Card is from a country not accepted on Cardtonic

  • Wrong receipt type selected, or the receipt submitted was unacceptable or did not match the card

  • The code appears to have been guessed or generated rather than taken from an actual card

Please note: Whatever the reason, it will always be specified in the rejection notification. Read it carefully before resubmitting your trade.

What to do next:

  1. Check the rejection note in your trade history. Cardtonic usually states the reason.

  2. If the issue is fixable (wrong category, unclear image, or wrong receipt type), correct it and resubmit.

  3. If you believe the rejection is an error, contact support via in-app chat with your trade ID.
